🔧 Marine Engine Repairs & Overhauls
Factory-certified technicians, genuine OEM parts, and transparent pricing — keeping your outboard, inboard, or generator running at peak performance across Europe. From routine maintenance to full engine rebuilds, we get you back on the water quickly, safely, and sustainably.
Why Trust Green Boat Engines With Your Repair?
A marine engine operates in one of the harshest environments imaginable — saltwater corrosion, thermal cycling, constant vibration, and fuel degradation all take their toll. What starts as a minor oil leak, a slight drop in RPM, or a hard-start symptom can rapidly escalate into catastrophic failure if ignored or patched incorrectly.
At Green Boat Engines, we don’t just replace parts — we diagnose root causes. Our workshop in Nieuwersluis, Netherlands is equipped with factory scan tools, dynamometers, and precision machining equipment to handle everything from a 2.5 HP portable outboard to a 1000 HP marine diesel. Every repair is documented, every part is genuine or OEM-equivalent, and every engine leaves with a warranty-backed certificate.
We service all major brands including Yamaha, Mercury, Honda, Suzuki, Evinrude, Tohatsu, Nissan, Volvo Penta, Vetus, Perkins, Yanmar, Fischer Panda, Onan, and Westerbeke. Whether you trailer your boat, moor it in a marina, or operate a commercial fleet, our team is ready to keep your propulsion reliable.

🔁 Repair, Overhaul, or Repower?
One of the most important decisions a boat owner faces is whether to repair an aging engine, fully overhaul it, or replace it with a new or reconditioned unit. Our advisors provide honest, data-driven guidance — we will never push an expensive overhaul if a repower makes better long-term sense.
🔧 Repair
Best for: Recent engines with isolated failures, warranty-covered defects, or boats with low annual hours.
Typical cost: €200 – €1,500
Timeframe: 1–3 days
Expected life: Restores original lifespan
🔄 Overhaul
Best for: Engines with 2,000+ hours, multiple worn components, or declining performance that diagnostics confirm is mechanical.
Typical cost: €1,850 – €6,500
Timeframe: 5–14 days
Expected life: Equivalent to 70–80% of new engine life
🆕 Repower
Best for: Engines over 15 years old, obsolete parts availability, emission-zone compliance, or when resale value matters.
Typical cost: €4,500 – €35,000+
Timeframe: 2–5 days (drop-in) / 1–2 weeks (custom)
Expected life: Full manufacturer warranty, 10+ years
We offer a free repower consultation for any engine requiring more than €2,000 in repairs. We will compare the repair quote against the cost of a new or reconditioned engine from our stock, factoring in fuel savings, warranty value, and resale impact. Many customers are surprised to find that a repower is more affordable than expected — especially with our installation and rigging packages.
🌱 Sustainable Repair Practices
At Green Boat Engines, sustainability is not a marketing slogan — it is built into how we work. Every repair and overhaul is carried out with environmental responsibility in mind:
- Waste oil & coolant recycling: All used fluids are collected by licensed recyclers; none enter the water system.
- Parts remanufacturing: Where OEM remanufactured parts are available (alternators, starters, injectors, turbochargers), we offer them as a cost-saving and eco-friendly option.
- Metal & alloy recovery: Scrap pistons, bearings, and castings are sorted and returned to foundries for re-melting.
- Packaging minimisation: We reuse OEM packaging and biodegradable fillers where possible.
- Electric & hybrid support: Our technicians are trained in high-voltage marine systems, battery diagnostics, and electric motor servicing — future-proofing your investment.
Choosing to overhaul rather than replace can reduce the carbon footprint of your propulsion system by up to 60% compared to manufacturing a new engine. We will help you make the greenest choice that still meets your performance and reliability needs.
❓ Common Symptoms & What They Mean
Not sure whether your engine needs a repair? Here are the most common warning signs and what they typically indicate:
| Symptom | Likely Cause | Urgency | Typical Fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hard starting or no start | Fuel contamination, weak battery, failing starter, glow-plug fault | 🔴 High | Fuel system clean, battery test, starter rebuild |
| Loss of power / RPM won’t reach WOT | Fouled injectors, restricted air intake, propeller damage, turbo fault | 🟡 Medium | Injector service, intake clean, prop repair, turbo check |
| Overheating alarm | Blocked raw-water intake, failed impeller, heat exchanger fouling | 🔴 High — stop engine immediately | Impeller replacement, heat exchanger descale, intake clear |
| White smoke (diesel) | Coolant entering combustion (head gasket, cracked head) | 🔴 High | Head gasket replacement, head pressure test, rebuild |
| Blue smoke | Oil burning — worn rings, valve seals, turbo seal failure | 🟡 Medium | Top-end overhaul, turbo rebuild |
| Black smoke | Over-fuelling — dirty air filter, injector dribble, turbo lag | 🟡 Medium | Air filter, injector service, turbo actuator test |
| Gear oil milky / water in lower unit | Failed seals, cracked gearcase, water intrusion | 🔴 High | Lower unit reseal, pressure test, bearing inspection |
| Vibration at certain RPM | Propeller damage, bent shaft, engine mount wear, misfire | 🟡 Medium | Prop balance, shaft check, mount replacement, ignition test |
| Alarm beep / fault code | Sensor failure, low oil pressure, overheat, ECU fault | 🔴 High — diagnose before next use | Scan-tool diagnosis, sensor replacement, pressure test |
| Fuel in bilge / strong petrol/diesel smell | Leaking injector line, cracked fuel hose, tank breach | 🔴 Critical — fire/explosion risk | Full fuel system inspection, line replacement, tank test |
Rule of thumb: If a warning light, alarm, or unusual noise appears, stop the engine and call us. Running a marine engine with a known fault almost always turns a €200 repair into a €2,000 rebuild. Our diagnostic hotline is available during business hours for quick triage advice.
